tonight, i take some time to follow the links in the posts before.

firstly, i landed at this burak networking guy from new york / istanbul, who runs graphcommons.com ... let's see if i get invited to the beta programme.

I'm also wondering if i could get http://www.publicartlab-berlin.de/ to be part of our research. let's see.

additionally, I'm very much waiting for my read of http://www.ctheory.net/printer.aspx?id=422 and http://www.ctheory.net/printer.aspx?id=423 , which might lift me onto a new level of meta-thinking about heterotopias and multitudes which lead to heteropolis? we'll see.

but the real question for me to post again was: aren't the catacombes from paris the heterotopia per se?

Activism, a key concept.

We have a problem. The problem of this blog, of this whole research, has to find answers : which are the projects (s)elected to be PSI? Could be the activist' projects, in wich architects play a role. Points to write :

A. Difference between political and architectural activism.

Political activism promotes ideologies. The aim of political activism is to make those promoted ideologies enter the public space - public space understood as the place where people discuss ideas. Means : medias.

Architectural activism builds projects. The aim of architectural activism is build the public space - public space understood as the place where people meet. Means : to define.

B. Architectural Activism = inversion of the command :

When architects do not wait a command to build what is needed. A complete revolution of the profession. Risky too.

Then apperas the only thing of the site : a grid. The whole idea is to create a grid where all units are different types of informations.

here is an abstract of the idea :

When moving the mouse on the grid, informations appear : for emample inred here, you can read the name by pointing the mouse on a portrait.

There are 7 lines, seven types of information : people, collectives, institutions, projects, competences, ideas, steps. We may chat to know if we want more information, relative to time or location for example.

When clicking on an info, you make the connected infos appear, and others disapear. Here, you click on a project and you know in one second the people, collectives, intitutions, competences, etc, involved in the project.

Then you can click on another info, and reduce the field. Here, you are looking for what has done the pointed collective in the project you selected before.

And so on...

If you tell yourself, how can you obtain such a perfect grid, without blanks, I'll tell you there will be empty cases, and when clicking on it you simply go to the form to fill.

Architecture has to do something, to change something; it has to be an active participant. It has to encourage a heightened social engagement.

By aligning itself as an aesthetic discipline – of appearance not space; of image not use; of icon over agenda; and of authority over community – architecture has become an abstract mute backdrop. There are plenty of moments in real life where social interaction explicitly relates to physical space: moving large pieces of furniture, riding a see-saw, getting on a boat, going up a tall ladder (when someone has to hold the bottom), helping someone put on their coat, playing team sports, asking someone to take your photo, carrying the shopping with someone, etc. Could these be the source for a kind of socially engaged design?
